Newton, Massachusetts, native joins Lions after building Lasell into a 20-win program

BOSTON, Mass. (February 2, 2026) – Emerson College has named Billy Uberti as its next head coach of the baseball program ahead of the 2026 season. Uberti joins Emerson after six years as head coach at Lasell University.

Billy Uberti Lasell head shot"I am thrilled to welcome Billy Uberti as our next head baseball coach," said Steph Smyrl, Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Director of Athletics at the College. "Billy brings meaningful collegiate head coaching experience, a strong track record of building competitive programs, and a clear understanding of how to support student-athletes within the Division III environment. Throughout the search process, he stood out for his thoughtful leadership, genuine care for student development, and commitment to academics. We are excited about the direction of Emerson Baseball under Billy's leadership and the positive experience he will foster for our student-athletes."

Uberti joins Emerson following six years as the head coach at Lasell University, where he guided the Lasers from eight wins in his first full season at the helm to three consecutive 20-win campaigns, including a program-record 25 victories in 2025. Lasell reached the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament each season with a winning record in Conference play each year and posted an overall record of 53-27 (.663) in the GNAC. While overseeing growth of the Lasers baseball roster over his six years, the baseball program also held a team grade point average of 3.0 or better every semester.

"The Emerson baseball program will be built on a culture of respect, competitiveness, and teamwork - both on and off the field. We will work relentlessly to bring the program to new heights in the prestigious NEWMAC. I could not be more excited to represent such a tremendous institution, and I look forward to making the Emerson community proud."

Prior to his time at Lasell, Uberti served as assistant coach at East Georgia State University for the 2019 season. He was assistant coach at Suffolk University for two years, helping guide the Rams to the 2018 GNAC Championship and an NCAA Division III Tournament appearance. Uberti started at Lasell as an assistant coach for three years following his graduation from the university in 2014.

Uberti also gained coaching experience with the Martha's Vineyard Sharks of the Futures League, an NCAA sanctioned wood bat summer league, serving as assistant coach in 2018 and 2019 and then returned as head coach for the 2023 season with the Sharks now competing in the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL).

Uberti earned a Bachelor's Degree in sport management from Lasell in 2014, where he was an All-Conference infielder. He earned his Master's Degree in administration of higher education from Suffolk in 2018.

"We are grateful to interim head coach Henry Butterfield for his time and support of the team during the transition, as well as former head coach Nick Vennochi for the effort and dedication he brought to the program and our student-athletes," added Smyrl.

Emerson is scheduled to open its 2026 season on Saturday, February 21, against Lasell at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough, Massachusetts, at noon. The Lions open their New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) schedule at MIT on Tuesday, March 24, at 3:30 p.m.
