Springfield Sweeps Baseball in NEWMAC Doubleheader

Pride complete sweep with Mayo no-hitter after riding 17-hit attack in game one

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (March 29, 2026) – Springfield College swept a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader with Emerson College at Archie Allen Field this afternoon. Springfield took game one 11-1 in seven innings behind a 17-hit attack, before riding a no-hitter from junior righthander Josh Mayo in game two to complete the sweep with a 16-0 triumph in seven innings.

Game 1: Springfield 11, Emerson 1 (7-innings)

Eight of Springfield's nine batters recorded multiple hits in a 17-hit attack in opening the doubleheader with an 11-1 victory in seven innings.

Junior Tyler Casey paced Springfield's offense by batting 3-for-4 with a double, two stolen bases and three runs scored, while classmate Nate Garafalo finished 2-for-2 with a double, three walks, two RBI and a run scored. Senior Nicholas Lloyd batted 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI, while postgrad Michael Lepere hit 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Senior Nate Kelleher-Monchak earned the win on the mound for Springfield, allowing just the one earned run on five hits with ten strikeouts and two walks over 6.2 innings.

Junior Braeden O'Connell continues to swing a hot bat for Emerson as he finished 2-for-2 with a double and run scored, while sophomore Liam Curley hit 2-for-3 with a double and RBI. First year Vincent Fuller also doubled for the Lions. Sophomore Lukas Phillip took the loss (1-3) on the mound for Emerson, yielding seven earned runs on 11 hits and two walks with a strikeout in 3.1 innings.

Springfield grabbed a three-run lead in the home half of the first inning as Casey led off with a single, stole second and then reached third when senior Jack Dunaisky reached on a fielder's choice attempting to retire the lead runner. Casey scored on a double steal with Dunaisky, who scored on a single to center by postgrad Luke Barone. Junior Adam Crocker followed with an RBI single of his own to left.

Kelleher-Monchak did the rest, holding Emerson without a hit until the fourth inning when the Lions got on the scoreboard when O'Connell doubled to right and then Curley drove him in two batters later with a two-out double to right.

Springfield answered with four in the home half, led by a two-run single to right by Lepere, before Garafalo added an RBI single and then Dunaisky, who singled, later scored when Lloyd reached on a fielder's choice. The Pride added two runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings to close out the game. Dunaisky was in the middle of the seventh for the Pride, delivering an RBI and single and later scoring on a double from Lloyd.

Game 2: Springfield 16, Emerson 0 (7-innings)

Josh Mayo struck out ten and walked two over the course of his seven-inning no-hitter for Springfield in game two. Junior Kyle Mitchell paced the Pride lineup in the night cap by driving in five runs as he finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, home run and three runs scored. Tyler Casey followed up his first game effort at the plate by going 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored, while Jack Dunaisky hit 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored.

While Braeden O'Connell was unable to find a hit in game two, he still reached base by drawing one of the two walks against Mayo and stealing a base. Junior righthander Tyler Metcalf took the loss (0-4) on the mound, allowing eight runs, just five earned, on five hits and three walks over 3.2 innings.

After grabbing the lead in the second when Luke Barone delivered a sacrifice fly that scored Mitchell after pinch running for Nate Garafolo who drew a leadoff walk, Springfield took control with a four-run third. Casey led off with a single and then the Pride loaded the bases with a hit batter and bunt single. Casey scored when Mitchell reached on an error and then Michael Lepere, who had reached with the hit by pitch, scored on a wild pitch. Dunaisky scored on a ground out and then Luke Barone capped the inning with an RBI single to center.

Springfield broke the game open behind the Mayo no-hitter from there as Mitchell highlighted a five-run fifth with a two-run homer and then capped a three run sixth with a two-run double to right that was the lone Pride hit in the frame.
