Thomas Defeats Baseball

Cagnina leads Terriers with three hits and four RBI

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. (March 20, 2026) – Thomas College grabbed the lead in the top of the first inning on its way to a 12-2 victory over Emerson College in a non-conference baseball matchup at New England Baseball Complex this afternoon.

Postgrad DJ Cagnina led Thomas' ten hit attack by batting 3-for-4 with a double, home run and four RBI. Junior Jandre Rivera-Caraballo hit 2-for-3 with a home run, stolen base and RBI, while classmate Hayden Dippner finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Junior righthander Ian Libby earned the win (1-0) on the mound for the Terriers with five shutout innings, scattering four hits with five strikeouts.

Junior Justin Fields hit 2-for-4 for Emerson, while senior Charlie Coors was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Sophomore righthander Lukas Phillip took the loss (1-1) for the Lions, yielding four earned runs on four hits with a strikeout and three walks over 2.0 innings.

Thomas scored in each of the first five innings and in seven of its eight at bats overall to claim the win. Cagnina opened the scoring with an RBI single through the left side as the first four Terriers reached base. He followed with a two-run double to down the right field line to double the Thomas lead in the second and then led off the fourth with a homer to left to extend the Terriers lead to 6-0 on their way to leading by ten in the seventh.

Emerson extended the game with a pair in the bottom of the seventh when sophomore Aidan Callahan drew a leadoff walk and later scored when first year Jack McCoy reached on a fielder's choice. Coors followed with an RBI single to left to pull the Lions back within eight, but Thomas got those runs back in the top of the eighth without benefit of a hit to close out the scoring.
