NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. (March 31, 2026) – Massachusetts Institute of Technology pitching limited Emerson College to two hits, while the lineup laced four doubles in posting a 5-0 victory in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) baseball matchup at the New England Baseball Complex this afternoon.
MIT used three pitchers to limit Emerson to just two hits in the shutout effort with first year righthander Thomas Grisamore earning his first collegiate win (1-1) with 7.2 shutout innings of work, allowing just one hit and a hit batter with seven strikeouts and no walks. Sophomore Jonathan Freedman and first year Deven Pietrzak combined to record the final four outs, yielding just one hit with three strikeouts.

Classmate John Churchward had both Emerson hits in the contest, finishing 2-for-4 for the afternoon.
After Emerson threatened in the fourth as Churchward reached with an infield single and advanced to second on a wild pitch, MIT broke through in the top of the fifth. Del Pino led off with a single to right and later scored on a single to left from first year Dalton Chi.
Grisamore would retire 11 of the last 12 batters he faced from there, working around a leadoff hit batter in the sixth, and the MIT lineup pulled away with four runs over the final three innings. Dwyer led off the seventh with a double, reached third on a wild pitch and then scored the Engineers second run on a Del Pino ground out.
MIT took advantage of an Emerson error and Severson delivered a two-run double to extend its lead to 4-0 in the eighth before adding an additional insurance run in the ninth without benefit of a hit.
