HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first quarter was slow offensively for both sides. Patrick Smith scored early for Coast Guard as he netted a goal not even a minute into the game. The Lions answered quickly as Toby Cunningham found the back of the net a few moments later on a pass from Jack Burns. The Bears added a goal with 10:28 remining in the first quarter to take a 2-1 lead but that is all the scoring that would happen in the first 15 minutes.
  • The Bears were able to get a little more offensive momentum in the second quarter, netting three goals. Burns scored an unassisted goal to help keep the Lions close. At the half, the Lions trailed 5-2.
  • The Lions came out in the third quarter and got goals from Burns, Birk Swan, Pierce Eldridge, and two goals from Kurt Schwarz to tie the game at 7-7 after three quarters.
  • The Bear's attack was able to distance themselves from Emerson in the fourth quarter. The Lions were only able to find the back of the net one time as the Bears scored five times. This gave Coast Guard a 12-8 advantage which proved to be enough to defeat the Lions on Saturday afternoon.

UP NEXT

The Lions close out the 2023 regular season with a 5-12 overall record and a NEWMAC record of 1-5. The Lions look to build heading into the 2024 season.
