- Neilsen added another goal for the Engineers just over a minute later. With just under two minutes played in the first quarter, the Lions found themselves in a 2-0 hole.
- Burns leveled the game at 2-all after he responded with two constructive goals of his own, one on the man-up opportunity, with 10:55 left in the frame.
- The Engineers would reclaim the lead on a goal from Johnson, but Burns would score another pair of tallies within the period to help keep the Lions within one goal. At the end of the first, Burns registered all four of Emerson's goals as the Lions trailed, 5-4.
- MIT responded in the second quarter and outscored Emerson, 6-1, to take the 11-5 lead at the break.
- It was not until halfway through the second quarter before Emerson locked the score at 5-all when graduate Peirce Eldredge found the back of the net on a pass from freshman Toby Cunningham.
- The Engineers were quick to answer to as they gained the lead back on a goal from Teddy Corcoran.
- MIT closed out the remaining five minutes in the half scoring six goals to put Emerson in a six-goal hole.
- Emerson opened the third quarter with a string of three consecutive goals, which included two from Burns and another from sophomore Benson Offit, to close the gap to three at 11-8 with 5:15 to go in the frame.
- Through the final four and a half minutes, MIT found the back of the net on two shorthanded goals from Joe Lupo and Ryan Gebhardt to push their advantage to 13-8.
- The fourth quarter saw MIT spread seven more goals through 11:58 to 1:40 and put their lead at 21-8 before Swan closed out Emerson's scoring with a goal at the :15 second mark as the final sat at 21-9.
