HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swan put in the game's first goal 58 seconds in to put Emerson in front 1-0 over the next several minutes before Racine potted the equalizer at 12:12.
- Burns sent in his first goal at 11:25 off a feed from Swan for the 2-1 lead. After a nine minute scoring lull, Swan slipped in an unassisted rally in at 2:06 to put Emerson in front, 3-1.
- Board netted Wheaton's second goal of the frame at the 58 second mark to inch within one at 3-2, but it was Burns' goal with 21 ticks on the clock that sent the Lions into the second with the 4-2 advantage.
- Emerson registered the second's first four of five tallies, which consisted of three consecutive goals from Burns to bump the Lions' lead to 6-3 with 7:38 on the clock.
- Board snuck in two consecutive goals to cut Emerson's lead down to three at 8-5 as the Lions' used Burns' fourth goal of the quarter to bump their margin to 9-5.
- Even with the four-goal lead at the break, Emerson was narrowly outshot by Wheaton, 21-20, in the opening half.
- It was a quiet third frame on the scoring front as Wheaton was able to hold Emerson to four shots and keep them off the board. Wheaton turned one of their 12 shots into a goal, which came from Racine at 8:50 and put the score at 9-6 at the end of three.
- Emerson flipped the script in the fourth and this time kept Wheaton off the scoreboard, which allowed the Lions' to record five goals.
- Fulgione kickstarted Emerson's scoring run at 13:47 and was followed by a marker from freshman Kurt Schwarz as the hosts held their biggest lead of five at 11-6.
- 2:04 went by before Swan completed his hat trick off a pass from Kiniry with Emerson's lead sat at 12-6.
- From 8:53 to 8:01, Burns went to work and knocked in his last two goals that lifted Emerson to the eight-goal cushion at 14-6.
- In the final eight minutes of regulation, Emerson's defense held Wheaton to four shots, one of which McGrath was able to turn away to preserve the eight-goal win.
