The Lead: Senior Skyler Celotto led the Emerson  men's lacrosse team's offense with a pair of goals followed by four more Lions getting on the stat sheet as the Lions were upended by Springfield, 18-6, on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Turi fired in the game's first tally to give Springfield the early one-goal advantage over Emerson at the 11:47 mark before they tacked on another pair of goals from Santa Barbara and Burgmyer. With 6:46 on the clock, Emerson trailed 3-0. 
  • Off a feed from Swan, Eldredge squared up and sent in the Lions' first marker from in front of the net as the hosts' cut the deficit down to two at 3-1 with just under three and a half minutes left in the first.
  • Springfield put in two more goals from Burgmyer and Betsch before the quarter's end with Emerson down 5-1. 
  • Emerson used the second frame to dwindle down Springfield's lead down to three at 7-4. Starting at the 9:54 mark, Fulgione tacked on the Lions' second tally to put the score at 5-2. After Lane upped Springfield's lead back up to four, Celotto used the Lions' next possession to cut the lead in half to 6-3 at 2:05.
  • With one minute left in the half, Springfield added its seventh goal on the board from Turi before Celotto potted his second goal with 27 ticks on the clock to enter the break down three.
  • The third stanza scoring went Springfield's direction as the Pride scattered four more goals through 15 minutes as the Lions now looked at a seven-goal hole going into the fourth. 
  • Franklin got Emerson within seven at the 11:42 mark at 12-7, but Springfield responded and quickly rattled off six more goals from the 11:03 mark to 2:50. 
  • Emerson got one more goal from O'Rourke to round out the game's scoring as the score sat at 18-6.
