The Lead: Sophomore Jared Brush (Grosse Pointe Park, Mi.) tallied two goals for the Emerson men's lacrosse team as the Lions were topped in a 19-3 loss by the Clark Cougars in an early Saturday morning NEWMAC contest at Granger Turf Field. 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Within the opening quarter, Clark found the back of the net eight times to take a commanding 8-1 lead over Emerson. 
  • Clark opened the game with four consecutive goals starting with a net from Isaac Bass 46 seconds in and followed by goals from Lucas Petricone-Berg and Brandon King. 
  • Sophomore Cameron Radenberg (Los Angeles, Calif.) set up Brush for Emerson's first goal at 10:19 to keep the Lions in the game at 4-1. 
  • The Cougars wrapped up the quarter with four more goals, including King's second with 3:09 left to play to give them the seven-goal cushion. 
  • Emerson was held scoreless throughout the second quarter and allowed Clark to tally four goals and to take the 12-1 lead going into the half. 
  • Clark once again outscored Emerson in the third frame on goals by Jack Goracy and saw Nick Johnson set up Chris Rasco for a pair to gain the lengthy 15-1 advantage with one quarter left to play. 
  • Senior Jack Markwordt (Woodbine, Md.) started off the scoring for Emerson within the fourth quarter to put the score at 15-2 as Brush tallied his second goal at 11:22 with the score at 16-3. 
  • Connor Morris snuck in a goal around Emerson's pair of nets as the Cougars wrapped up the game with a trio of goals from Andrew Hollerbach, Sam Luz and Jack Mandracchia to put the final at 19-3. 

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • Brush countered for two of Emerson's goals with Markwordt tallying the other, while Radenberg had a pair of assists, sophomore Marshall Tate (Taunton, Mass.) scooped up a team-best five ground balls, two caused turnovers and won one of four in the X and sophomore Fernando Gutierrez (Lancaster, Pa.) won seven face-offs in the X. 
  • Sophomore keeper Bailey Kennedy (Swampscott, Mass.) recorded 12 saves through 60 minutes in the net for Emerson. 
  • Rasco put in four of Clark's goals followed by King, who tallied three, as Johnson recorded seven assists, Elliot Pressman picked up a game high six ground balls and Connor Morris cause two turnovers.
  • Jacob Reiner started the first 45 minutes in net for MIT and came up with four saves as Nathan Maselek recorded a pair of saves in the final 15 minutes. 
  • Clark took the 35-15 advantage in ground balls, as well in the X (17-8) and shots (56-21), while the Cougars went 0-for-1 in man-up chances and were 10-for-11 on clear attempts. 
  • Emerson converted one of four of its man-up opportunities and were 13-of-19 on clears.
