The Lead: Sophomore Jared Brush (Grosse Pointe Park, Mi.) netted a pair of goals and freshman Paul Seguin (Norwall, Mass.) and sophomore Cameron Radenberg (Los Angeles, Calif.) each tallied a goal for the Emerson men's lacrosse team, but the Lions could not salvage a win against host and NEWMAC foe, MIT, on Wednesday night and fell to the Engineers, 19-4.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • With the help of Harris Stolzenberg's four goals and a pair from Mitch Turley, MIT took a commanding 12-0 lead over Emerson after the first quarter. 
  • Only two goals were tallied within the second quarter and saw Emerson tack its first point on the board on Brush's first goal of the game to put the score at 12-1. 
  • After Brush put Emerson on the board, Bobby Rauch notched the second goal of the quarter at the 8:41 mark to give MIT the 13-1 lead to close out the half. 
  • MIT came out with three goals to open the second half from Rauch, Jacob Stein and Jonathan Monahemi to extend its lead to 16-1. 
  • A goal from Seguin at the 7:15 mark of the third quarter broke up MIT's scoring with the score at 16-2 as Monahemi's second goal of the quarter wrapped up the quarter with MIT ahead, 17-2. 
  • TJ Burns slipped in MIT's 18th goal at 13:58 of the fourth before Radenberg and Brush snuck a pair of nets past Victor Fink with the score at 18-4 with 5:40 left to play. 
  • Burn wrapped up all scoring with 39 ticks on the clock with the 19th Engineers goal. 

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • Brush, Radenherg and Seguin all tallied goals for the Lions as Radenberg and junior James Monroe-Chausse (Cape Elizabeth, Me.) recorded one assist each. 
  • Sophomore Fernando Gutierrez (Lancaster, Penn.) scooped up a team-best nine ground balls and caused two turnovers along with Tyler Burnam.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Bailey Kennedy (Swampscott, Mass.) manned the net for Emerson through the full 60 minutes and allowed 19 goals with 13 saves in the loss. 
  • Stolzenberg netted four goals to lead MIT, while Graham Davis and Jack Strachan each notched three assists, Joseph Vasile picked up eight ground balls and Brandt Nelson caused two turnovers.
  • Fink allowed just four goals past him through 60 minutes in between the pipes and made 12 saves. 
  • MIT held the advantage in ground balls (40-23), within the X (18-9) and shots (40-26) and finished 16-for-21 in clears. 
  • Emerson went 15-for-20 in clears and were 1-for-3 when in the man-up advantage. 

 

UP NEXT

  • Emerson travels to Coast Guard for a NEWMAC matchup on Saturday, April 22 starting at 1:00 p.m.
  • MIT also hits the road on Saturday to face off against Massachusetts Maritime Academy at 7:00 p.m.
