The Lead: A trio of Lions, including freshman Paul Seguin (Norwell, Mass.) and sophomores Cameron Radenberg (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Jared Brush (Grosse Point Park, Mi., netted a pair of goals to push the Emerson men's lacrosse team to its second consecutive win in a 8-2 triumph over Wheelock College in non-conference action on Wednesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Brush opened up Emerson's three-goal first quarter at the 12:41 mark to give the Lions a 1-0 lead over Wheelock.
- After Brush put Emerson on the board, Radenberg netted the second Emerson goal just over seven minutes later at 5:52.
- With 4:10 left in the opening quarter, senior Austin Max (Nashville, Tenn.) sent his first goal of the season past Wheelock goalie Josh DiMassa to give Emerson the 3-0 advantage.
- Brush netted his second goal of the game on a man-up opportunity to put the Lions ahead 4-0 before Luke McKinnon put Wheelock on the board with 10:56 left in the second quarter.
- Gary Broad snuck the Wildcats second goal past Emerson sophomore goalie Bailey Kennedy (Swampscott, Mass.) to cut the lead in half at 4-2.
- Radenberg and Seguin slipped two goals past DiMassa within the final 8:09 of the third quarter to extend Emerson's lead to 6-2.
- A Wheelock penalty set up Emerson's second man-up goal of the game, this time scored by junior James Monroe-Chausse (Cape Elizabeth, Me.), to put the score at 7-2 at the 13:11 mark of the fourth.
- Radenberg set up Seguin's second net at 8:51 and allowed the Lions to close out the 8-2 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Along with Seguin, Radenberg and Brush, Monroe-Chausse and Max also tallied goals for the Lions.
- Both Seguin and Radenberg also tallied one assist, while sophomore Fernando Gutierrez (Lancaster, Penn.) scooped up 12 ground balls and senior Daniel Terry (Westborough, Mass.) caused three turnovers.
- McKinnon and Broad netted goals for Wheelock, while Jared Trainor and Eddie Ramero each had one assist.
- Broad also scooped up a team-best seven ground balls and caused eight turnovers.
- In between the pipes for Emerson was Kennedy, who played the full 60 minutes and recorded an .827 save percentage with 12 saves.
- DiMassa was in the net for Wheelock and made six saves through 60 minutes in the loss.
- Emerson outshot Wheelock, 28-22 and also held the 13-1 advantage within the X as both teams scooped up 35 ground balls each.
- The Lions were 24-for-31 in clears and 2-for-3 in man-up opportunities, while the Wildcats were 0-for-3 with the man-up advantage and were 19-of-23 in clears.
