BOSTON, Mass. (March 14, 2026) – Massachusetts Institute of Technology pulled away in the second half to secure a 17-9 victory over Emerson College in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's lacrosse opener for both at Lester Rotch Field this afternoon.
Seniors Bryce Metalios and Oscar Lindenthal combined to score nine of MIT's 17 goals in the contest as Metalios netted a game-high five to go with an assist for six points, adding three ground balls and a caused turnover for the Engineers. Lindenthal also contributed two ground balls and a caused turnover, while sophomore Riley Pierce contributed three goals. Senior Garrett Campagna chipped in four points with a goal and three assists, while first year Kaden Fenno won 16 of 21 faceoff attempts, collecting ten ground balls along the way for the Engineers.
Senior Ethan Corby registered 15 saves in the Emerson goal, while sophomore Brady Fish and first year Henry Bradley each netted a pair of goals for the Lions, with Bradley collecting four ground balls. Senior Aedan Kiniry dished out two assists with two ground balls and a caused turnover for the Lions, while junior Zachary Stern-Hayes chipped in a goal and assist.
After Campagna and Bradley traded goals over the first 90-seconds, MIT took the lead for good with four straight goals, including three by Metalios, for a 5-1 cushion just five minutes into the game. Emerson responded after a timeout to pull back within two (5-3) heading to the second quarter following goals from first years Dylan Wong and Ethan Munsch.
MIT edged Emerson 2-1 in the second quarter to carry a three-goal lead (7-4) into halftime and then opened the third quarter with three goals, including a pair by Pierce, in the opening three minutes to stretch the lead to six (10-4). The Engineers extended the lead to nine (14-5) after Lindenthal's fourth of the day with 2:41 remaining in the third.
Emerson responded with three-straight goals to close out the third and pull back within six (14-8) after Bradley's second of the game with 46-seconds left. The teams traded goals in the opening four minutes of the fourth and then MIT closed the game out from there, scoring the final two goals over the last ten minutes.
