Box Score BOSTON, Mass – Emerson Men's Lacrosse suffered a tough loss in their home opener to the visiting UMass Boston Beacons, 15-5. The Lions fall to 0-2 on the season, while UMass Boston remains undefeated at 6-0.
The Beacon's jumped out to a quick lead scoring five goals in the first quarter. Conor Smith scored two of these early goals and ended the game with four overall and an assist. However, with less than a minute left in the period, UMass had a turnover to give Emerson possession and freshman, Cameron Radenburg, scored the team's first goal with less than 15 seconds left on the clock.
The second quarter was a little quieter. UMass scored three quick goals within the first five minutes of gameplay, and then tapered off until the half. Emerson Lions junior, Austin Max, scored Emerson's only other goal before the half, assisted by Radenburg. The half ended 8-2.
Radenburg entered the third quarter strong and scored the first goal less than five minutes into the half, he was assisted by senior Nicholas Kitsos. Emerson sophomore Andrew Romano also scored during the third with an unassisted goal. UMass had another powerful quarter and scored an additional five goals. The score was 13-4, giving UMass an impressive lead heading into the final quarter.
The fourth quarter saw the Beacons put in two more goals, while Romano put in his second goal and the Lions final, with UMass taking the day 15-5.
In cage for the Beacons playing the full 60 was AJ Collette making 8 saves on 13 shots. Defending the net for the Lions was freshmen Bailey Kennedy who made 11 saves on 26 shots.
The Lion's next matchup will be on March 16th when they travel to Regis College. Opening faceoff at 5:00pm.
