Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – With Max Smith and Brady Darragh combining for six goals on the day, the Emerson Men's Lacrosse Team just wasn't able to fend off the Monks of St. Joseph's of Maine Saturday afternoon in a 20-10 loss. The Lions drop to 0-5 on the season and 0-5 in the GNAC while SJM moves to 6-7 and 4-1 in the conference.
Through the first two periods the Monks posted 31 shots on the Lions to amass 13 goals while Emerson's offense couldn't seem to click into action as they were only able to put up 13 shots themselves with Max Smith, Brady Darragh and Dan Gold all putting in a goal apiece as SJM headed into the break with a dominant 13-3 lead.
Emerson came back in the second half to step up against the Monks on both offense and defense, slowing the attack of SJM while Donald Welch saved 11 over the next 30 minutes. The Lions dominated the faceoff circle as well, winning 20 of the 31 in the game while EC gave the Monks a little more work in the fourth period as they netted six goals to chip away at the Monk lead.
In the fourth alone the Lions put in back-to-back Max Smith and Brady Darragh goals before they went on a spree with eight minutes to go as they scored four unanswered goals with Eric Colleran banking two while Max Smith finished his trifecta in the match. In the end the Monks were too much to overpower though as they finished the game with a 20-10 win.
The Lions return to the home pitch this Monday as they host Mitchell at 4 p.m. in Boston at Rotch Field.
