Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – While winning 20 of 28 faceoffs on the day and collecting more than 11 ground balls over their foe, Emmanuel College, the Emerson Men's Lacrosse Team weren't able to make enough of the effort as they fell in a 17-8 final to the visiting Saints. The loss drops the Lions to 0-3 on the year and 0-3 in the conference while Emmanuel moves to 5-4 on the year and 1-2 in GNAC action.
In the first period, Emerson's own Dan Gold decided to kick-of the party in fashion as he collected a pass from Kyle Billings in only the third minute of play which he promptly found a nice home for, nestling a wicked shot to the top right corner. The Saints used their ins with a higher power throughout the rest of the period as they came marching in to put up seven unanswered goals to close out the first up 7-1.
The Lions kept to their liking and struck first again in the second period with Dan Gold taking care of business with a perfect ball from Eric Colleran giving the Lions a pulse to open the second with a neatly deposited goal to make it 7-2. Emmanuel's offense always seemed to have the answer though as they put up two more to every Emerson goal in the period, scoring six in their 15 minutes of fame while Max Smith pocketed two of his own to head into the half down 12-4.
The third saw the Lions shake things up a bit against the Saints, who for the first time in the game scored first in a period only to have the Lions drop three unanswered goals to make a game out of it. While it seems spiritually unfathomable, the Saints appetite was insatiable in the outing as they put up three more to close out the third before their final one in the mid-fourth which Brady Darragh matched in the closing minutes to pull it to its 17-8 final resting place.
The Lions Men's Lax Team will return to action this Wednesday as they set to head to Norwich to continue GNAC action.
