AUBURNDALE, Fla.- The Emerson College baseball team endured a pair of losses to Utica Tuesday, falling 4-3 and 20-7.


GAME ONE
THE BASICS:
Score: Emerson 3, Utica 4
Records: Lions (4-2) | Pioneers (4-3)
 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Utica notched a run in the bottom of the first inning to seize a 1-0 edge.
  • The Pioneers plated one run in the second to double their advantage to 2-0.
  • Utica tacked on two runs in the home half of the third frame to widen the margin to 4-0.
  • Emerson got on the board in the top of the sixth inning, scoring one run to cut the deficit to 4-1. Braeden O'Connell (Boxford, Mass.) scampered home from third base as Charlie Coors (Golden, Colo.) reached on an error.
  • The Lions produced a pair of runs in the seventh to trim the gap to 4-3. Robby Posio (Queens, N.Y.) laced a single to centerfield to drive in Nicholas Favazzo (Lexington, Mass.). Briggs Loveland (Burleson, Texas) followed with an RBI base knock to plate Justin Fields (Glen Ridge, N.J.).


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Robby Posio (Queens, N.Y.) finished with two hits and one RBI.
  • Justin Fields (Glen Ridge, N.J.) collected two hits and one run scored.
  • Braeden O'Connell (Boxford, Mass.) registered one base knock, one run scored, and one stolen base.
  • Briggs Loveland (Burleson, Texas) added one hit and one RBI.
  • Angelo Deer (West Orange, N.J.) tossed five innings in his second start of the spring and posted three strikeouts. Tyler Metcalf (Louisville, Ky.) pitched one inning and fanned one batter in his team-leading fourth relief appearance.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Utica rattled off five runs in the top of the first inning to establish an early 5-0 lead.
  • Emerson responded with three runs in the bottom of the first frame to whittle the deficit to 5-3.
  • The Pioneers produced two runs in the second inning to stretch their advantage to 7-3.
  • Utica tacked on a pair of runs in the third to widen the gap to 9-3.
  • The Pioneers manufactured eight runs in the fop of the fourth to extend the margin to 17-3.
  • The Lions managed one run in the home half of the fourth inning.
  • Utica chalked up three runs in the fifth to grab a 20-4 lead.
  • Emerson picked up three runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the gap to 20-7.
