HOW IT HAPPENED

  • With Carroll on after being hit by a pitch, he made his way around the bases and plated Coast Guard's first run on a passed ball to give the Bears an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
  • Emerson used their half of the first to push across two more runs to put themselves in front, 2-1.
  • Back-to-back singles from Copeland and Hatch turned into both of Emerson's runs as the duo crossed home when Loveland's single made its way into right.
  • Barkley sent a two-out single up the middle to plate Carroll for the game-tying 2-all run in the top of the third.
  • In the home half of the third, Emerson sent home another run on another RBI single, this time from Ferara, to plate Hatch for the 3-2 lead.
  • Coast Guard would not go away quietly and tacked on two more runs in the fifth. Barkley drove a two-out RBI two-bagger into the left center gap as the Bears grabbed their first edge of the game at 4-3.
  • Hatch made it a brand new game in the Lions' half of the fifth and took Priddy deep. His sixth home run of the year landed on top of the wall in right center and leveled the score, 5-5.
  • Carroll's RBI single into left brought in Jack Stasiak for the go-ahead 6-5 lead in the seven, but Loveland used the bottom of the frame to drive in Hatch to lock the score once again, this time at 6-all.
  • A two-out single into left from Steel crossed Stasiak in for the seventh Coast Guard run and edged the Bears to the one-run lead at 7-6.
  • Emerson drew up a comeback in the home portion of the ninth and were able to push past Coast Guard, 7-6.
  • Emerson's comeback began when a hit batter and error by the pitcher put two runners on for Emerson in the ninth with one out. Coplend came around from second to plate the tying run thanks to Ferara's double that landed into the left center gap.
  • With runners on second and third with one out, another error committed by Coast Guard helped Emerson triumph as Nachamie's routine grounder was mishandled by the pitcher and allowed Loveland to touch home for the game-winning run.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Emerson bats exploded in the home half of the second and quickly gave themselves the 3-0 lead behind a pair of RBI singles from junior Ty Bourne and Copeland.
  • Coast Guard responded in the third when they capitalized on two costly defensive Emerson miscues and chipped the Lions' lead down to one at 3-2.
  • Another untimely error by Coast Guard allowed Hatch to come around for the fourth Lions' run and gave the hosts the two-run cushion at 4-2.
  • A passed ball followed by Steel's sacrifice fly into center leveled the score at 4-all in the top of the seventh.
  • The home half of the seventh saw Emerson one again jump ahead to a two-run lead at 6-4.
  • With the bases full of Lions after sophomore Avery Smith was plunked by Soletti, Posio found the gap in right center and knocked a single to drive in two more runs.
  • Back-to-back singles began the ninth for Coast Guard as runners stood at second and third with one out after a grounder. Both Carroll and Barkley batted a pair of RBI singles to put Coast Guard in front, 7-6.
  • Emerson tried to forge another comeback in the bottom of the ninth and got a runner on with a two-out single from Posio that landed in left. The final out was recorded on a fly ball into right as the Lions' slipped to the Bears, 7-6.
