HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Wheaton was able to get on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the first inning. The Lyons manufactured a run, plating the game's first run with a sacrifice fly to right field.
  • The Lyons struck again in the bottom of the second inning, scoring three more runs. Nick Giangrego led off the inning being hit by a pitch and was later driven in by AJ Guindon. Two batters later, Cavan Brady doubled down the left field line, plating two Lyons, giving them a 4-0 lead after two innings.
  • With two outs in the top of the third inning, Emerson was able to get on the board. Jake Hatch roped a double down the left field line, setting the table for Matt Nachamie to drive him in with an RBI single. Benny Guevara set Wheaton down in order in the bottom of the inning as the Lions now trailed 4-1 after three innings.
  • The Lions were able to do damage once again with two outs in the top of the fifth inning. Quinton Copeland singled to center field, followed by a Hatch triple to right center that cut Wheaton's lead to 4-2.
  • Wheaton was able to extend their lead to 6-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning. A leadoff triple from Guindon followed by a hit-by-pitch gave the Lyons a first and third opportunity with no outs in the inning. An Emerson error and a single would allow the Lyons to push across two runs in the inning.
