HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the midst of a three strikeout inning for Lowe, Matos took a 3-2 pitch deep just over the right field fence to give Wheaton the 1-0 lead in the top of the second.
  • Wheaton's fourth through sixth saw them push six runs across, highlighted by a four-run sixth that was highlighted by Giangregorio's three-run homer to left to push Emerson's deficit to 7-0.
  • The Lions deficit reached 8-0 in the top of the seventh when Mike Maher drove a deep sacrifice fly to the center field wall to drive in Guindon.
  • A two-out RBI single from Benway crossed Copeland home for Emerson's first run in the bottom of the seventh and moved the score to 8-1. The Lions threatened for more when Ferara drew a two-out bases loaded walk, but Mulhern retired the hosts on strikes.
  • Guindon's sacrifice fly into right allowed Teberio to plate Wheaton's ninth run with the score sat at 9-1 after the top half of the eighth.
  • Emerson used a pair of hits and error by the Lyons in their portion of the eighth to get two runs back and moved the score to 9-3.
  • Copeland came around the score Emerson's second run on Loveland's RBI two-bagger that he drove into the left center gap. Nachamie followed in the next at-bat his own RBI as he drove a single into left to drive in Loveland.
  • Two more runs for Wheaton came in to start off the ninth when Teberio smacked a double into left center to bring home both Matos and Brady as Emerson's deficit was bumped to 11-3.
  • Ferara singled to the shortstop to get a runner on for the Lions in the bottom of the ninth, but the hopes of a comeback disappeared on an inning-ending double play.
