The Lead: The Emerson baseball team came up short in their first NEWMAC action of 2023 as Clark walked off on the Lions in both games Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Chris Lowe was the star for the Lions in game one on the mound as he spun a 7-inning gem, only allowing 2 earned runs. The Lions held a 2-0 lead for most of the game after a 2-run 3rd inning. The Lions scored when Briggs Loveland tripled to right center; driving in Quinton Copleland. Chris Ferara would later drive in Loveland with a sacrifice fly to give the Lions their 2-0 lead.
- Emerson added three insurance runs in the top of the 8th inning when Blake Benway doubled to left-center, plating Ferara.Ty Bourne and Thai Morgan would also drive runs in during the inning, giving the Lions a 5-1 lead. Clark cut into the lead in the bottom of the 8th inning with two runs. Entering the 9th inning, Emerson led 5-3.
- The bottom of the 9th inning saw Clark come from behind and not only tie the game, but also win the game with one swing of the bat from Brayden Hollindrake. The freshman roped a double to right-center, driving in the tying and winning runs as the Cougars came from behind and walked off on the Lions in game one of the doubleheader.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Game two of the day was another game highlighted by great pitching performances. Emerson's Angelo Deer threw an 8-inning gem, surrendering only 2 runs. While Clark's Maxwell Gitlin threw 8 innings and only allowed one run.
- The first run of the game was not scored util the 6th inning when Clark was able to manufacture a run via sacrifice fly.
- The Lions answered two innings later as they manufactured a run with a sacrifice fly as well. Loveland was able to drive a ball deep enough to plate Copeland and tie the game at 1-1 through 7 and a half innings.
- The Lions were unable to take the lead in the top the 9th innings and the bottom of the 9th inning saw Clark load the bases before drawing a walk, plating the game-winning, walk off run for the Cougars.
- This secured the second walk-off victory for the Cougars on the day as they defeated the Lions in both games.
