HOW IT HAPPENED
- This NEWMAC showdown saw a pitcher's duel unfold through the first four innings. The Lions Ty Bourne and the Pride's Ryan Baker kept both offenses quiet. Neither team had a baserunner get past second base through the first four innings.
- Emerson was able to end the scoreless tie in the top of the fifth inning when a Milo DeBartlo single, followed by a walk by Thai Morgan set the table for a 2-RBI double for Jake Hatch. Bourne was able to continue his dominance in the bottom of the fifth inning and shut the Pride bats down again; keeping the Lions ahead 2-0 after five complete innings.
- The Lions extended their lead in the top of the sixth inning when DeBartlo drove in Matt Nachamie with an RBI single to right field. Springfield was able to scrape a run across in the bottom of the sixth, but left the based loaded and the Lions escaped the inning with a 3-1 lead.
- The momentum turned in the bottom of the seventh inning when the Pride offense exploded for 6 runs on 7 hits, including a 3-run blast by Michael Barrett. The Pride now took a 7-3 lead after 7 innings.
- Springfield scored another 6 runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to extend their lead to 13-3 which ultimately ended the game in 8 innings due to the mercy rule.
