The Lead: The Emerson baseball team split their doubleheader with Babson on Saturday afternoon at Govoni Field. Game one saw Emerson take a late lead and defeat Babson before Babson returned the favor in game two.
GAME ONE: Emerson 12, Babson 5

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Babson struck first in the home half of the second inning when Ryan Hvozdovic doubled home Michael O'Brien to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead after two innings.
- The Lions offense answered in the top of the third inning; scoring 4 runs on 2 hits. Jake Okamoto led the inning off with a single and two batterd later, Quinton Copeland drove an RBI single to left field. The Lions scraped together 3 more runs in the inning on two sacrifice flies and scoring a run on a wild pitch. Emerson led 4-1 halfway through the third inning.
- The Lions tacked on to their lead in the top of the fourth inning when Thai Morgan and Okamoto both scored. The Beavers were able to cut into the Lions lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Luca Rubin drove and RBI single to center field. After four complete innings, the Lions led 6-2.
- Babson again cut into the Lions lead in the home half of the fifth inning; scoring one run and cutting the lead to 6-3 in favor of Emerson.
- Emerson tacked on another three runs in the top of the sixth inning, extending their lead to 9-3. Tanner Santos and Chris Basile both had RBIs in the bottom of the sixth inning, cutting the Lions lead to four runs.
- In the top of the seventh inning, Chris Ferara reached on a Babson error, followed by Matt Nachmie drilling a no-doubt homerun over the left field wall to give the Lions an 11-5 lead.
- AJ Ortega came in relief and slammed the door on the Beavers; throwing three innings, striking out 4 and allowing no runs.
- The Lions tacked on one more run in the top of the eighth inning to give them a 12-5 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lions opened the scoring in the top of the second inning with a Robby Posio RBI.
- Babson took the lead in the home half of the second inning with 3 runs on 4 hits and capitalizing on an Emerson error. After two innings the Beavers led 3-1.
- The Lions tied the game in the top of the third inning when Chris Ferera singled to left field, plating Briggs Loveland. Later in the inning Ty Bourne drew a walk with the based loaded to plate the tying run.
- The Beavers re-took the lead in the home half of the third inning with 2 runs on 3 hits. After three innings, Babson led 5-3.
- Jake Hatch led off the inning with a solo homerun and Bourne and Posio led the Lions to another lead with back-to-back RBI singles. The Lions now led 6-5.
- The Beavers offense exploded for 6 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to open their lead to 11-6. They added one more run in the bottom of the ninth as their pitchers were able to keep the Lions off the scoreboard in the late innings.

The Lions will play a makeup game against crosstown opponent Suffolk University on Monday, April 17th. This game was originally scheduled for March 28th. First pitch is scheduled for 12pm.
