HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Engineers wasted no time getting on the board as a Jeffrey Brennan 2-run homerun put WPI on top 2-0 after 1 complete inning of action.
  • The Lions answered immediately in the top of the 3rd inning when Matt Nachamie drilled a 2-run homer of his own to tie the game at 2-2.
  • The Lions offense was relentless throughout the remainder of the game; scoring in every inning expect for two the rest of the way.
  • Jake Hatch drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the 4th inning with a sacrifice fly and this was all the Lions would need to hold off the Engineers.
  • The Lions broke the game open in the top of the 5th inning. With runners at first and second, Quinton Copeland crushed another homerun for the Lions, giving them a 6-2 lead. Chris Ferara would later single in Hatch to give the Lions a 7-2 lead halfway through the 5th inning.
  • The Engineers were able to get one run back in the bottom of the 5th inning when Gavin George drove a solo homerun over the fence.
  • The Lions offense again answer in the next half inning when Nicholas Favazzo doubled in a run. After 6 complete innings, the Lions were on top by a score of 8-3.
  • Emerson delivered the knockout blow in the top of the 7t inning, scoring 5 runs on 4 hits and capitalizing on a WPI error. Briggs Loveland and Nachamie both singled in runners while Favazzo delivered a 2-run homerun.
  • AJ Ortega continued his dominant day on the mound, setting the Engineers down in order in the bottom of the 7th inning, securing a mercy-rule victory for the Lions.
