HOW IT HAPPENED
- NEC struck first in their half of the second frame when they crossed three runs home to take the early 3-0 lead over Emerson.
- After Philibott sent an RBI two-bagger into left, Patnode followed with an RBI double of his own that found the left center gap. The Pilgrims' third double of the inning, this time from Dobrie, brought home Patnode for the third run.
- Emerson used the home halves of the third and fourth innings to lock the game up 3-all.
- The Lions' scoring began on Nachamie's RBI single that landed in center and brought in both Copeland and sophomore Briggs Loveland to inch the hosts within one at 3-2 in the third.
- In the fourth frame, Fields plated senior Chris Ferara for the game-tying run when he sent a sacrifice fly into deep center.
- From the fifth inning to the eighth, the duo of Lowe and Deer combined for six punch outs and kept NEC off the board to preserve the 3-3 game.
- Nachamie sent a single into left to give Emerson some life and pushed Copeland over to third after he stole second. With no outs, Copeland plated the go-ahead run on Perez' passed ball as the Lions claimed their first lead at 4-3. Perez exited the inning with no further damage as closed it out as he fanned two and got a fly ball out.
- NEC got two runs back in the top of the ninth to reclaim the lead at 5-4.
- J Cannavo singled in Philibott for the tying 4-4 run before a caught stealing situation allowed R Hughest to cross home the go-ahead run with two outs. Emerson got out of the inning with a ground ball to third and now trailed, 5-4.
- Perez quieted the Lions' bats in the home portion of the ninth despite surrendering a walk and retired the side on a pair of strikeouts and a pop up as the hosts were edged, 5-4.
UP NEXT
- Emerson make the quick turnaround tomorrow, Friday, March 3rd to wrap the week with a non-conference meeting with Curry at 2:00 p.m.
