HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Curry was able to break the scoreless tie in the home half of the 2nd inning when the centerfielder, Brett Heggs, began the inning with a solo homerun to right field. Joan Peralta would follow with a double to left center and would eventually score on a wild pitch, giving the Colonels a 2-0 lead after 2 complete innings.
  • The Lions answered with a solo homerun of their own the next inning when Senior Joe Colucci drove a ball over the left field fence; cutting Curry's lead to 2-1.
  • With 1 down in the top of the 3rd, Freshman Briggs Loveland doubled to centerfield, where he was driven in 2 batters later by Senior Calvin Jacey; tying the game at 2-2.
  • The Colonels would manufacture a run in the bottom of the 4th inning, taking a 3-2 lead after 4 innings.
  • The Lions bats would stay quiet in the top of the 5th inning. In the Bottom of the inning, Curry was again able to manufacture 2 runs with the help of a couple miscues by Emerson. Curry had a 5-2 lead after 5 innings.
  • Neither team would produce much offense over the next 2 innings. The Colonels added an insurance run in the bottom of the 8th, giving them a 6-2 lead and securing the victory.
