HOW IT HAPPENED

  • With 2 outs in the top of the 2nd, the Lions were able to break the scoreless tie. Junior Matt Nachamie started the 2 our rally with a single through the left side. Senior Calvin Jacey would then walk, followed by a single by Sophomore Ty Bourne; driving in Nachamie.
  • Sophomore Jake Okamoto would follow up with a 2 RBI double, plating Jacey and Bourne; giving the Lions a 3-0 lead. An error by WPI's left fielder would bring home Okamoto, extending the Lions lead to 4-0.
  • WPI would answer immediately in the home half of the 2nd when Jacob Hand led off the inning with a solo homerun. That is all the Engineers were able to score in the frame as the Lions held a 4-1 lead after 2 complete innings.
  • Emerson would go quietly in the top of the 3rd inning while a pair of singles and a pair of doubles from WPI would tie the game at 4-4 after 3 innings.
  • The Lions would do more 2-out damage in the top of the 4th inning. Okamoto would have another RBI double, plating Jacey. Senior Quinton Copeland would add a double of his own, driving in Okamoto and give Emerson a 6-4 advantage.
  • Emerson's lead would be short-lived once again as WPI even the score at 6-6 in the home half of the 5th inning.
  • The Engineers gave the lead right back to Emerson when an error on a Copeland double into the left-center gap would plate 3 Lions giving them a 9-6 lead.
  • WPI cut into the lead in the bottom of the 7th; scoring a run on a wild pitch.
  • Both teams would score a run apiece in the top and bottom half of the 8th inning; making the score 10-8 after 8 innings.
  • WPI rallied in the bottom of the 9th inning. The Engineers manufactured 3 runs on 3 hits, completing the late inning comeback and walking off on the Lions with a 11-10 win.
