HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lions threatened early as they loaded the bases with nobody out. Unfortunately, Emerson was unable to push a run across as Springfield's pitcher, Michael White, induced a fielder' choice, cutting a run down at home followed by a 4-2-3 double play to end the Lions threat.
- The Lions again had a chance to do some damage in the top of the 3rd inning. Sophomore Jake Okamoto led off the inning with a single, followed by Senior Joe Colucci being hit by a pitch. A wild pitch advanced Okamoto and Colucci; giving Emerson two runners in scoring position with 0 outs. A wild-pitch and a ground out plated both runners for Emerson, breaking the scoreless game and giving Emerson a 2-0 lead.
- Springfield answered in the home half of the 4th inning; A lead off hit-by-pitch, a Ryan Sorgi single, and a wild pitch allowed Springfield to score a run, cutting Emerson's lead to 2-1 after 4 complete innings.
- The Lions opened the top of the 5th inning with back-to-back singles from Freshman Briggs Loveland and Junior Thai Morgan. A bases loaded walk, followed by a passed ball gave the Lions 2 more runs, extending the lead to 4-2.
- Sophomore Benny Guevara continued his dominance, setting down the Pride in order in the bottom of the 5th inning.
- With 2 outs in the top of the 6th inning, Emerson added 3 runs. A Colucci single, followed by three Springfield free-bases and a wild pitch extended Emerson's lead to 7-1. Springfield answered with a run of their own in the home half of the inning. The Lions held a 7-2 lead after 6 innings.
- Emerson added a run in every inning from the 7th to the 9th.Loveland singled in a run in the 7th inning and added an RBI double in the 9th.
- Springfield added a run in the bottom of the 8th; but Guevara was again able to limit the damage as the Lions secured a 10-3 victory.
