HOW IT HAPPENED
- Game 1 of Saturday's twin-bill saw a pitcher's duel between Wheaton's Gavin Reilly and a combination of Emerson's pitchers. The only run to be scored through the first 6 frames of baseball was in the top of the 2ns inning when Wheaton was able to cash in on a leadoff double from Zach DeMattio. Junior hurler AJ Ortega held Wheaton to that lone run until the top of the 6th.
- In the top of the 6th innings, Wheaton capitalized on 2 walks (1 intentional) and a hit-by-pitch from Emerson. With the bases loaded, DiMattio was hit by a pitch, forcing home a run and extending the Lyons lead to 2-0. A Cavan Brady single would drive in another Wheaton run and extend their lead to 3-0 through 76 innings of play.
- Wheaton's hurler Gavin Reilly kept the Lions offense off balance all day, holding them to only 3 hits. Wheaton would tack on 2 insurance runs in the top of the 8th on a DeMattio homerun to centerfield and secure a 5-0 victory in game 1 of the double header.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Wheaton offense wasted no time jumping out to a big lead in the top of the 1st inning in game 2. With an 8-hit inning, the Lyons plated 10 runs, creating a large deficit for Emerson to overcome before they even touched their bats.
- Both offenses remained quiet until the 4th inning. Zach DeMattio added his 2nd homerun of the day, giving Wheaton an 11-0 lead before the Emerson offense answered in the home half of the inning. With 2 outs and a runner on 1st, Senior Quinton Copeland doubled, plating the Lions' first run of the game. The next batter, Senior Calvin Jacey pushed Copeland across the plate with the help of an error by Wheaton. After 4 full innings, Wheaton had an 11-2 lead.
- In the top of the 5th inning, Wheaton's offense exploded once again. With 6 hits, the Lyons scored 7 more runs, extending their lead to 18-2.
- In the top of the 6th inning, Wheaton added another run followed by 3 more runs in the top of the 7th inning. Emerson was unable to answer and Wheaton pulled away with a 22-2 7-inning victory in game 2; completing the 3-game sweep.
