HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Emerson had a chance in the bottom half of the fourth to tie the score with both Davolio and Ferara on the bags and no outs, but Spencer retired the side on three fly ball outs to keep the Cougars' 1-0 edge.
  • Gitschier batted a single to begin the visitor's sixth and eventually came around to score again when Ham sent another sacrifice fly into left. Clark now held the 2-0 lead through six frames.
  • It was in the home half of the eight when Emerson cut into Clark's lead to put the score at 2-1.
  • Copeland started the inning off with a single up the middle and crossed home all the way from second when Ferara roped an RBI single into center.
  • Colucci smacked a one-out single into center to keep Emerson's comeback hopes alive in their final at-bats in the bottom half of the ninth. With a runner on second, Spencer got the game's last two outs on a stealing attempt at second and a grounder to third as Emerson fell in game one, 2-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Clark jumped on the board in the top of the first when Gitschier batted a single and advanced to second on a defensive miscue by the shortstop and allowed Rulnick to come home. After one inning, the Cougars took the 1-0 lead.
  • Gitschier brought in Sullivan for Clark's second run as he reached on another Emerson error to put the Lions in a 2-0 hole after three frames.
  • Emerson began their scoring in the home half of the third frame and were able to cross one to put the score at 2-1 when Copeland roped an RBI single into center.
  • Guevera kept Clark at bay over the fourth and fifth frames and fanned four batters to give Emerson a chance to get back in the game. In the bottom of the fifth, the Lions used a trio of hits to plate two runs to claim its first lead at 3-2.
  • Tettemer knotted the score 2-all as he hacked an RBI three-bagger over the right fielder's head to bring in Jacey. In the next at-bat, Copeland laced an RBI single into the right center gap to push Emerson to the one-run lead.
  • Belt leveled the score up in the top of the sixth frame and sent the tying run in on an RBI single that snuck through the left side as the score sat at 3-3.
  • Behind a six-hit, seven-run seventh inning, Emerson batted around to bolstered their lead up to 10-3.
  • Back-to-back doubles from Nachamie and Copeland kickstarted the Emerson scoring  before Morgan contributed an RBI single up the middle to bring the Lions lead to 7-3. With one out, Hatch took Savage yard for a three-run bomb to extend the hosts' cushion to seven.
