HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Springfield wasted little time getting on the board as Michael Barrett led off the game with a single to center field before the next batter, Jack Simonetty, homered to right-center giving the Pride an early 2-0 advantage.
  • Springfield tacked on another run in the top of the 2nd inning to push their lead to 3-0 through 1 and a half innings.
  • The Lions responded in the home half of the 2nd inning. Junior Matt Nachamie led off the inning getting hit by a pitch and 2 batters later Senior Joe Colucci homered to centerfield, cutting Springfield's lead to 3-2 after 2 innings.
  • Springfield opened the 3rd inning with a bang as Jack Seimonetty homered for the 2nd time in the game, giving the Pride a 4-2 lead. From here, Springfield would pile on the runs. In an inning where rain made for challenging conditions, the Pride pushed across 14 runs on 7 hits and capitalized on 2 Emerson errors in the inning. Highlighted by the leadoff homerun from Simonetty, a 3-run homerun by Cadin Maynard, and a 2 RBI triple from Joe Penkala, Springfield was ahead 16-2 halfway through the 3rd inning.
  • As they have done all season, the Lions would fight back. Sophomore Ty Bourne led off the home half of the 3rd inning with a walk and was immediately driven in by a Quinton Copeland triple. Freshman Briggs Loveland and Junior Thai Morgan were given free passes before Nachamie plated both Loveland and Morgan with a 2 RBI double. Senior Lou Davolio singled in Nachamie; capping the 4-run inning for the Lions and cutting Springfield lead to 14-6 after 3 innings.
  • The Pride tacked on another run in the top of the 4th, but the Lions answered once again in the bottom of the inning. With 1 out in the inning, Copeland walked, setting the table for Loveland to launce his first career homerun over the center field wall. This 2-run blast made the score 18-8 after 4 innings.
  • Freshman Jake Smith silenced the Pride bats in the top of the 5th inning; holding them to their only scoreless inning of the day.
  • Loveland again helped the Lions chip away at their deficit in the bottom of the 5th inning with an RBI single. After 5 innings, the Pride were still on top by a score of 18-9
  • Springfield's offense tacked on 3 more runs in the top of the 6th inning. An RBI double from Noah Bleakley and a 2-run blast from Jack Cooney extended the Pride lead to 21-9.
  • The Lions added a run in the bottom of the 6th but were again out-done by a 2-run inning by Springfield in the top of the 7th inning.
  • Despite a Thai Morgan triple, The Lions offense went down relatively quietly and ended up on the wrong side of a 23-10 victory for the Springfield Pride.
