  • Game 1 of the twin bill remained scoreless until the top of the 3rd inning. A leadoff walk, a Tanner Santos double and a hit by pitch had the bases loaded with no outs for the Beavers. Sean Burychka singled, driving in a run for Babson giving them a 1-0 lead. The next batter grounded into a double play and the Lions were happy to trade 2 outs for another run early in the contest. After 2 and a half innings, Babson leaded 2-0.
  • The scoring continued for Babson in the top of the 4th. A leadoff homerun for Patrick Manning gave the Beavers a 3-0 advantage. Two walks by Emerson pitching, followed by a Josh Yellen double plated 2 more Beavers. The next batter, Burychka, added another single and an RBI, bringing Babson's lead to 6-0.
  • Babson's hurler Tim Noone continued to quiet the Lions bats through 7 strong innings of work and the Babson offense provided plenty of insurance in the top half of the 6th inning. Already leading 6-0, Babson tallied 7 hits and plated 6 runners, doubling their score to 12-0 after 5 and a half innings played

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Although Babson jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the top the first inning, Emerson would not allow that to go unanswered in the home half of the inning. A leadoff double by Senior Quinton Copeland followed by a single by Freshman Briggs Loveland got the Lions on the board. Junior Thai Morgan Followed Loveland with a double, plating another run. Three batters later, a double play would plate another run for the Lions; cutting Babson's lead to 4-3. Senior Calvin Jacey tied the ballgame at 4-4 with an RBI double and after 1 complete inning, the game was tied up.
  • The Lions pitching was able to keep Babson off the board in the top of the 2nd inning, despite a leadoff double. Copeland would leadoff the 2nd inning and would do so with a solo homerun to deep left field. This gave the Lions their first lead of the day at 5-4.
  • Babson answered in the top of the 3rd inning as back-to-back hit by pitches allowed the Beavers to push a run across; tying the game at 5-5. This run in the 3rd inning sparked a streak of scoring at least 1 run in every remaining inning for Babson.
  • With 2 outs in the top of the 4th inning, a 2 RBI single from Jackson Kelly put the Beavers back on top 7-5.
  • The top of the 5th inning would see 4 errors by the Lions defense, allowing Babson to tack on 2 more runs.
  • With the Beavers in the lead 9-5, their offense tallied 4 hits and added 3 more runs, extending their lead to 12-5 through 5 and a half innings. Another 2 runs in the top of the 7th inning saw the Beavers build a 14-5 lead halfway through 7 innings of play.
  • The Lions were able to tack on a run of their own on a Morgan triple which drove in Copeland, cutting into Babson's lead.
  • Babson added 4 more runs in the top of the 8th; extending their lead to 18-6. The Lions bats would again go quietly in the home half of the 8th inning, allowing Babson to secure another run-rule victory on Saturday afternoon and lock up the 3-game series sweep.
