HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Babson opened the home half of the first with a leadoff double, followed by back-to-back walks. With the bases loaded and nobody out, the Beavers pushed 3 runs across with the help of a throwing error by Emerson. Babson led 3-0 after 1 inning.
  • Babson extended their lead again in the bottom of the 4th inning.  A leadoff walk and hit -by-pitch gave the Beavers 2 baserunners with 1 out in the inning. Babson pushed both runners across with a sacrifice fly and a single to left field. With a 5-0 lead, Emerson would walk in 2 more runners; giving the Beavers a 7-0 lead after 3 innings.
  • Freshman Briggs Loveland tallied Emerson's first hit in the top of the 4th inning with a leadoff double to left-center. Loveland would later be caught stealing, and the Lions would remain scoreless.
  • In the bottom of the 5th inning, 3 Emerson errors and 2 free bases would allow the Beavers to score 2 more runs without recording a hit. Babson led 9-0 after 5 complete innings.
  • Freshman Jake Morvillo took over on the mound with 1 out in the bottom of the 5th inning and silenced the Beaver's bats for 3 innings.
  • The Lions offense woke up in the top of the 8th inning when Senior Rory Tettemer drove a double down the rightfield line. Three batters later, Loveland added a double of his own, driving in Tettemer. After a Thai Morgan single, Junior Matt Nachamie drove in 2 more runs for the Lions, cutting the Babson lead to 9-3.
  • Babson's Josh Yellen answered in the bottom of the 8th inning with a solo-homerun.
  • The Lions were able to add another run in the top half of the 9th inning, but ultimately would fall to Babson with a final score of 10-4 on Friday afternoon.
