HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a quiet top half of the 1st inning, Emerson starter Sophomore Logan Reilly shut down the Falcons in the home half of the inning.
- The Falcons bats exploded in the bottom of the 2nd, plating 8 runs on 7 hits. Cameron Pearson and Jordan Gosselin had 2 RBI a piece in the inning.
- With 1 out in the inning, Senior Bryan Simmons-Hayes entered the game to limit the damage. He was effective in his .2 innings of scoreless work.
- Looking to rally, the Lions offense was unable to capitalize off of an early single by Freshman Briggs Loveland.
- Down by 8, the Lions turned to Freshman southpaw Jake Smith to pitch in the home half of the 3rd.
- The Falcons were able to muster up 2 more runs to pad their lead on a Victor Torres single and a Nicholas Lucchese sacrifice fly.
- After Cameron Dow kept the Lions bats quiet again, Junior Sam Gutkin entered in relief of Smith. He kept the Falcons at bay in the bottom of the 4th giving up no runs and just one hit.
- Still being held scoreless, the Lions opened up the 5th in promising fashion with Junior Jake Hatch singling and stealing second. Emerson stranded Hatch in scoring position.
- After blanking the Falcons in the home half of the 4th, Gutkin delivered 3 more efficient innings, holding the Fisher offense to just one more run.
- The middle infield duo of Junior Thai Morgan and Senior Joe Colucci were able to turn a pair of slick 6-4-3 double plays in back-to-back innings to aid Gutkin.
- In the top of the 7th, Senior Lou Davolio got things going for the Lion's offense with a deep solo shot to right field; his 3rd home run of the year. This trimmed the Emerson deficit to 11-1.
- In the bottom of the 8th, Fisher College tacked on 1 more run to cap their day on the offensive side. This pushed the lead to 12-1.
- In the road half of the 9th, the Lions started their rally with a double by Hatch that scored Freshman Milo Debartlo.
- Shortly after entering the game behind the dish, Sophomore Blake Benway roped a ball into right field and was robbed of extra bases by a diving grab. Junior first baseman Chris Ferara was able to tag up and score.
- With the score now 12-3, Hatch scored on a passed ball to trim the Falcon lead to 8.
- This was all that Emerson could muster up in the 9th inning as Fisher contained the Emerson rally. Final Score: Fisher 12, Emerson 4.
