HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After a scoreless game carried into the fifth frame with the help of Fox's eight punch outs, the Lions got to Hetherman in its bottom half of the fifth when Hatch rocketed a triple into center and was brought in by Padovani's infield single to put the hosts on top, 1-0.
  • Emerson pitching and a key defensive play at third by freshman Thai Morgan (Waldwick, N.J.) kept Mass.-Dartmouth off the board over the next three innings with the Lions holding on to the slim one-run advantage.
  • It was in the eighth frame where the Mass.-Dartmouth bats blasted nine-run inning with two inside the park home runs, the first by Knell and the second from the bat of DiScarcina, to catapult the Corsairs in front, 9-1.
  • The Corsairs were not finished with the long ball and saw its third homer of the day come from Baker in the top of the ninth on a three-run bomb to left as the visitors extended their lead up to 12-1.
  • Emerson began the ninth drawing a pair of walks and had runners on second and third with two outs, but grounded out the first to fall, 12-1, in its home and season openers.

UP NEXT

  • Emerson returns to the field for a quick turnaround on Sunday, February 23 out in Malden hosting Rivier with the first pitch set for 12:00 p.m.
