The Lead: The Emerson baseball shouldered a tough two game sweep to the MIT Engineers to wrap the weekend and season series between the NEWMAC East foes on Saturday afternoon. In game one, the Lions were upended in a 22-4 setback before nearly coming away with a game two victory, but fell 9-4.
Prior to today's twin bill, the baseball team celebrated the careers of its eight seniors consisting of Tim Mainella, Daniel Gaynor, Pugliese, Ethan Young, Brian Fisher, CJ Rogers, Max Wildstein and Noah Zimmerman.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- MIT did some damage within the first half of the game and tagged Emerson pitching with 13 runs through five innings, including a six-run fifth frame.
- Emerson made its way onto the board within its half of the sixth with three runs to bring the score to 13-3 as McCahan roped an RBI double down the right field line, followed by an infield single by Beattie and Paladino's sacrifice fly into right.
- After Emerson kept MIT off the board in the bottom of the sixth, the Engineers answered and spread nine more runs across the remain three innings.
- Krause was hit by a pitch with the bases juiced to bring in a run (14-3) with three more runs plated on Allison's bases clearing triple landed in right (17-3).
- A two-run eighth and two-run ninth put the score at 22-3 in MIT's favor as Emerson were able to tack on one more run in the bottom of the ninth on Wildstein's single into left.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both sides tacked on one run in their halves of the first inning with Krause striking first for MIT behind an RBI double as Emerson answered with the tying run thanks to an RBI single into center by McCahan.
- MIT reclaimed the one-run lead in the third after Kushner batted an RBI singled into center, but surrendered its lead to Emerson when Long surrendered three-runs to the Lions in the fourth.
- With Rogers and Young at first and second, Jacey brought the pair home with his very own bases clearing three-bagger to push Emerson in front (3-2) and added an insurance run on Scarfo's infield single (4-2).
- A Lions miscue at home allowed the Engineers to bring the visitors back within one (4-3) before a sacrifice fly and wild pitch boosted MIT back up by one (5-4).
- Neither team plated a run through the sixth and seventh frames until Emerson threatened in the home half of the eighth with the bags full of Lions and zero outs.
- Emerson were unable to capitalized on the bases loaded situation and were retired in order on strikes.
- MIT sealed its win in a four-run eighth when Johnston took Fisher deep for a three-run shot into center (9-4).
- McCahan sent a one-out single up the middle in the ninth inning to put a runner for the Lions, but a grounder to third and short closed out the loss.
