The Lead: The Engineers of MIT keep the Lions bats at bay while theirs come alive, giving MIT the sweep of Emerson in a doubleheader on Saturday.
GAME ONE
BY THE NUMBERS
- Garrett Greenwood fanned eleven Lions on the way to his second victory of the year for the Engineers.
- The Lions were outhit 9-2 in the first game with Pablo Feldman (Mill Valley, Calif.) and Ryan McCahan (San Jose, Calif.) getting the two hits for Emerson.
- Sam Knox (Sturbridge, Mass.) took the loss allowing two earned runs in six innings on the rubber. Knox struck out five Engineers and only allowed four hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Emerson fell behind in the first inning on a sacrifice fly for the Engineers giving them a 1-0 lead.
- They maintained this lead into the fourth inning, when they scored two more runs to extend the lead to three.
- In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Engineers bats heated up with home runs by Zach Roberts and Max Lancaster, extending their lead to 6-0.
- The Lions grabbed their lone rune on a single by Ryan McCahahn which plated CJ Rogers (Guilford, Mass.) in the top of the eighth inning.
- MIT added on five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and saw out the game with an 11-1 victory.
GAME TWO
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Jack Fox (Los Angeles, Calif.) got the nod for the Lions, taking the loss but pitching eight strong inning and allowing four runs. Fox struck out eight Engineers in the loss.
- The Lions had four hits, one by Ryan McCahan, Dylan Scarfo (Upper Montclair, N.J.), Joe Paladino (Bedminster, N.J.), and Nolan Megna (Buffalo, N.Y.).
- MIT scattered evelen hits over eight time up at the plate. Thomas Allison led the team with three.
- Zachary Kopstein earned the victory, pitching six innings of shut out baseball and only allowing three hits. He struck out eight batters.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The score remained knotted at zero into the bottom of the fourth inning when Thomas Allison hit a solo home run to give the Engineers a 1-0 lead.
- Max Lancaster hit his second home run in as many games in the bottom of the sixth to extend MIT's lead to 2-0.
- MIT tacked on two insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and opened up a 4-0 lead.
- The Lions grabbed one back in the top of the ninth inning when Scarfo singled, bringing home Pablo Feldman.
UP NEXT
- The Lions and Engineers will face off again on Sunday, April 8th at MIT, a make up of the rained out game on Friday. The game will count as a home game for Emerson.
