HOW IT HAPPENED
- Emerson put two early runs on the board to grab the game's first lead at 2-0 after two innings were in the books.
- Beginning Emerson's scoring in the first was Cuccio, who brought in Rogers from second on a two-out RBI single into right before freshman Dylan Scarfo's (Upper Montclair, N.J.) RBI single made its way into left in the second.
- PSB's halves of the second and fourth frames were used to square the score at 2-all.
- After Will Scott-Norris put PSB on the board on a sacrifice fly into left in the second, Brendan Ricciardi reached on a bases loaded fielder's choice to plate Polanco for the tying run in the fourth.
- Emerson capitalized on a pair of PSB errors and used a pair of hits to cross three runs within the fifth and were able push themselves on top by three at 5-2.
- With no outs and runners on second and third, Cuccio smacked a single into left (3-2) before sophomore Joe Paladino (Bedminster, N.J.) bunted in Perry to give the Lions a two run edge.
- Cuccio made his way around the bags within the fifth and crossed home the fifth Lions' run on Edwards' balk with Emerson now up 5-2.
- Emerson was unable to preserve its 5-2 lead and allowed PSB to get themselves back into the game with the next two runs to even the score again at 5-5.
- Polanco proved to be trouble for Emerson's pitching staff through the fifth and sixth frames as he was responsible for helping knot the score on a two-RBI single into right.
- Emerson gave themselves a chance to grab the lead with a runner on second with one out in the seventh, but Sessa retired the Lions on a pair of pop ups as Field downed PSB in order to send the game into the eighth.
- Much like the seventh frame, Emerson had a chance to end the game with a runner on third with an out before Sessa once again retired the side to begin the eighth.
- With one out and a runner on third, PSB was able to plate the winning run on Polanco's single into right.
