Box Score Emerson dropped to 0-13 (0-2 in conference play) Tuesday afternoon following a 12-2 loss to WPI at the New England Baseball Complex in Northboro, MA.
The Engineers starting pitcher Andrew Portera improved to 2-1 in the romp, allowing only one hit through seven innings of shutout ball. The lone Emerson hit off Portera came by way of Emerson's Clint Fontanella with one out in the sixth. Emerson starting pitcher Jack Capotorto (0-4) earned the loss in his roughest start of the year, lasting only three innings and allowing five earned runs over eight hits and one walk.
WPI's bats came to life with DJ Ouellette and Alex Venditti each going deep and combining for 5 RBI and an additional 5 runs scored.
Emerson broke the shutout in the top of the 9th inning, as pinch hitter Malcolm Kelner led off with a single and advanced to second, third, and eventually home on respective wild pitches. The Lions would manufacture one more run on an RBI double off the bat of left fielder Jim Cain before the final out was recorded.
Emerson's next game will come Friday, April 3rd as they host MIT (4-3, 0-0) at Northboro in a conference matchup.
