Box Score 2 WATERTOWN, Mass. – A potent Wheaton offense was too much for the Emerson Baseball Team to overcome Saturday as they fell 10-0 and 18-0 to the visiting 23rd-ranked Wheaton Lyons. The Lions are now 3-20 on the year and 1-10 in conference play.
Game one saw Emerson hang tough with the Lyons as Josh Powers pitched solidly for the Lions, keeping Wheaton shutout until the fifth inning when they finally pushed three across. The Lyon bats seemed to wake up after though as they added two more in the seventh, three in the eighth and two in the ninth.
Kevin Foley stepped up for the Lyons going 3-for-4 with two runs scored with Zach Horton was a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Nick Filloramo went the distance for Wheaton as he threw for the complete game shutout with four strike outs while allowing only six hits in the 10-0 win.
It was a similar story early on for the Lions in the second game as Jack Capotorto fended off Wheaton for two innings before a three-run third happened. EC's pitching kept it close until the eight and ninth innings when the Lyons exploded for a combined 12 runs.
Wheaton's Joshua LaJoie went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI while Matt Lavanchy put up three hits in his four at bats for two more RBIs. Lead-off man Zach Bombard led the RBI race though as he collected four in a .500 performance as WC took the 18-0 win.
The Lions will head to the diamond again tomorrow as they set to take on the Springfield Pride at 3 p.m. in Malden, Mass. at Maplewood Field.
