Baseball Edged By SJM In Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Standish, Maine – A .400 day from Jesse Frankel wasn't enough to save the Emerson Baseball Team from the Monks of St. Joe's Maine as the Lions fell 18-5 and 12-2 in a GNAC doubleheader Wednesday. With the losses, Emerson is now 0-17 and 0-4 in conference play.

Game one sent Julian Rifkind to the mound for the start which saw the Monks waste no time, as they pushed across four runs in the first inning, before firing back for six more in the second to make it 10-0 after two complete.

Another two SJM runs came across in the fourth before Emerson's offense started to click into gear with a lead-off single from Jesse Frankel to start it all off as he was followed up with a walk to Jim Cain. Malcolm Kelner broke the shutout then as he put up an RBI single. Back-to-back-to-back walks to Mark Frazee, James Sullivan and Steven Cameron added another two runs for EC as they chipped away.

A ground out RBI from Nick Kelly followed next for Emerson's fourth rn before Kolby Woodfield added yet another with an RBI single of his own as the Lions rattled off five runs on the Monks.

SJM composed themselves after though as they answered with six runs in the bottom of the fifth to finish out the game with the 18-5 final.

Game two saw Emerson's Andy Brightman take the ball for the Lions where he pitched a shutout inning before SJM managed to scratch an unearned run across in the second.

Emerson answered immediately though in the third with a lead-off walk to Mark Frazee starting it up as James Sullivan followed with a single through the left side. A sac bunt put the runners in scoring position where an error by the SJM catched scored Mark Frazee and a passed ball brought home James Sullivan as EC took the 2-1 lead.

It was short-lived though as SJM answered with two runs in the third to regain the lead before putting up three runs in the bottom of the next three innings to pull away from EC, 12-2.

The Lions return to GNAC action on Saturday as they travel to Rivier to face the Raiders in the doubleheader. Game time is set for noon in Nashua, N.H.
