Box Score 2 MALDEN, Mass. – James Sullivan hit the history books Sunday as he collected his 100th career hit as the Emerson Baseball Team fell 8-1 and 9-2 to Albertus Magnus to close out the 2013 regular season. The Lions finish at 2-27 overall and 2-14 in conference play as the Falcons improve to 12-15 on the year and 7-7 in the GNAC.
Game one sent Jack Capotorto to the mound where he threw six innings with four fantastic ones, striking out five and allowing only four earned runs. Albertus hit the board in the first inning after an error caused EC a run. The Lions answered though with a double from Zach Dean and an RBI single from Cal Ciarcia to make it 1-1.
With the pitchers doing work through the next two innings, it was the fourth that saw Albertus add another run with an RBI double before breaking it open in the fifth with three runs off three hits and two Emerson errors.
With Sammy Evers in for relief in the seventh, the Falcons struck against with another three runs off three hits and again two Emerson errors as they closed out the 8-1 win.
Game two gave Nick Kelly the ball, but the Falcons were ready for the junior righty as they put up four runs on the board in the first inning and five in the second with a collective seven hits and two Lion errors in two innings.
Emerson's bats remained quiet until the seventh though as Zach Dean led-off with a single that was brought home off an error by center field before a Johnny Hasney RBI single made it 9-2.
The offense was all EC would post in the game, though the highlight for the Lions came in the sixth inning as James Sullivan dug in to slap a single on the board for his career 100th hit as the Lions closed out the 2013 season.
The Lions would like to thank their fans, friends and families for all their support through the 2013 season.
