Box Score 2 HOLDEN, Mass. – Zach Dean swung a hot .571 average on the day as the Emerson Baseball Team fell 9-1 and 4-1 in a tough doubleheader to Anna Maria Saturday. The Lions are now 1-22 on the year and 1-9 in conference play while Anna Maria moves to 13-14 overall and 7-5 in the GNAC.
Game one sent Jack Capotorto to the hill for the Lions as the AMCATS took to the board right in the first inning, scoring two runs off two hits. Anna Maria never looked back, adding another three in the fourth and fifth inning before breaking it open in the sixth with four more runs to push it to 9-0.
The Lions offense finally sparked in the seventh as Cal Ciarcia got it started with a single to center that Steven Cameron followed up with a single to place a runner in scoring position. Jesse Francese dug in next to drop an RBI single into left center. That was all the Lions could muster though as the AMCATS closed it out 9-1.
Game two gave Sammy Evers the ball for the Lions where he kept the AMCATS at bay for two innings until the third when Anna Maria managed to scratch one across.
The Lions fired back in the fifth to knot it up as Jim Cain led off with a double to left field to set up a Steven Cameron RBI single to right to make it 1-1. The AMCATS came back in the bottom of the inning with two runs off two hits and an error to take the lead again on EC.
Another Anna Maria run in the sixth would give the AMCATS all they'd need on the day as they closed out the day with a 4-1 win.
The Lions are back in action Tuesday as they set to face Gordon. Game time is set for 3 p.m. in Wenham, Mass.
