Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Vir. – Steven Cameron went a perfect 2-for-2 while Zach Dean batted .500 on the day as the Emerson Baseball Team lost a tough 6-4 game to Virginia Wesleyan Friday morning. On the year, the Lions are 0-8 while VWC moves to 4-9.
The Marlins took to the scoreboard first in the second inning with a run that the Lions answered with one of their own in the fourth inning with a leadoff single from Jesse Francese. Francese showed some speed stealing second to get in scoring position to line up an RBI single from Steven Cameron to knot it up at one apiece.
The Marlins answered with another run to take the lead, but Emerson wasn't going quietly as they took the lead back in the top of the fifth with an RBI from Cal Ciarcia. The Lions got crafty as well as James Sullivan's speed played a factor as Ciarcia stole second which opened the door for Sullivan's theft of home to make it 3-2.
The tug-of-war with the score continued as WVC took back the lead for good with two more runs in the fifth and sixth that the Lions were only able to answer one of in the ninth inning. Capitalizing on an error by the first baseman, Johnny Hasney was able to come around to score off a Zach Dean double. The effort just fell short though as the Marlins closed out the 6-4 win.
Emerson will travel next to Gallaudet to take on the Bison In a 1 p.m. match-up in Washington, D.C.
