Box Score MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Zach Dean's 3-for-4 day with a run scored and an RBI and Andy Brightman's 2-for-3 with two RBIs lit up the box score Thursday as the Emerson Baseball Team fell 11-6 to Penn State Berks. With the game the Lions are now 0-7 on the year while PSU-Berks moves to 3-3 overall.
While the Nittany Lions jumped on the board first in the first inning, Emerson came right back in the second with two runs of their own with a leadoff single from Cal Ciarcia that was followed up with another by Jesse Francese. An RBI double from Steven Cameron plated one before Malcolm Kelner's RBI double brought in Francese to give EC the lead.
Emerson struck again in the third inning as well with three more runs on PSU-Berks' tab, leading off with back-to-back singles from Johnny Hasney and Zach Dean setting up a Cal Ciarcia RBI ground out. Andy Brightman played the next hero with two-RBI single to right center to make it 5-1 in favor of Emerson.
The Lions couldn't hold the line though as PSU-Berks rallied back in the third with five runs off four hits to make it 6-5. Emerson tied it again in the fourth with A James Sullivan double coming home off a Zach Dean RBI single. The bottom of the inning is where the Nittany Lions made the difference though, adding another five runs off eight hits to take the win 11-6.
The Lions will start their road trip north stopping off in Virginia Beach Friday where they'll face Virginia Wesleyan a 2 p.m.
