Box Score 2 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – James Sullivan posted another stellar day at the plate Monday, hitting .375 with a double and a .500 slugging percentage as the Emerson Baseball Team fell 16-5 to King's College (Pa.) and 16-1 to Ursinus College. The Lions now hold at 0-4 on the season headed into day three of spring break.
Game one against the Monarchs of King's College sent Brandon Topp to the mound for the Lions. The offense for EC came out of the gate strong, putting up three runs in the first inning alone with Sullivan dropping a bunt single to start things off. A single from Kolby Woodfield plated Cal Ciarcia before rookie Jesse Francese brought in another with an RBI single to bring home Zach Dean. A Monarch misplay made it 3-0 headed into the bottom of the inning.
From there King's College brought out the bats, adding three of their own in the first and three more though the fourth inning. Emerson fired back in the fifth with a Cal Ciarcia single that Kolby Woodfield brought home with an RBI double before an RBI ground out by Jesse Francese brought another home to make it 6-5 after five complete.
The Monarchs took the reigns from there though as they brought out the bats with a tough seven run eighth inning to close out the 16-5 game. Topp took the loss on the day to move to 0-1 while Emerson moved to 0-3.
Game two on the day set up the Lions against the Bears of Ursinus, with Andy Brightman making the start for Emerson. The Bears took a jump early with four runs in the first half and adding eight more through the next six innings.
The Lions put a mark on the board in the seventh inning though as they pounced on a muffed throw and a hit by pitch to set up a Jim Cain RBI on a fielder's choice to put a run up for the Lions. While James Sullivan battled hard, hitting .500 in the game, the Bears answered with four more runs in the game to close it out 16-1.
The Lions return to action Tuesday as they set to face Wilkes in a doubleheader at noon and 3 p.m. in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
