Box Score 2 WTAERTOWN, Mass. – Andy Brightman swung .500 on the day as the Emerson Baseball Team fell 14-0 and then 4-2 (10) to the visiting Suffolk Rams Saturday afternoon. The Lions are now 0-14 on the season and 0-2 in conference play as the Rams improve to 13-2 overall and 2-0 in the GNAC.
Game one sent Brandon Topp to the mound for the Lions, but the Rams were quick to take out the bats, putting up four runs in the first inning of play off four hits. EC shut down the attack until the third when two errors cost the Lions three runs to make it 7-0 after four complete.
Suffolk didn't waste any time adding to the lead, with six more runs in the fifth inning as the Lions suffered two more errors to see the Rams edge away. Zach Dean went two-for-three in the game while Andy Brightman came in for relief in the seventh inning to shut down the Rams in the 14-0 final.
Game two was far more exciting as Nick Kelly came in for the start for Emerson and opened up with a shutout inning. The Rams scratched onto the board first though in the second inning as an unearned run crossed. EC didn't let the lead last long though as they retaliated in the bottom of the inning for two runs of their own with RBIs from Kolby Woodfield and James Sullivan to snake the 2-1 lead.
The game remained quiet as Nick Kelly did work in his nine innings of pitching, shutting down the Ram line-up for the next four innings until a lead-off double was followed up by an RBI single to make it three all and send it into extras.
From there it was a head-to-head as both teams were unable to plate a run through the next couple innings until Kelly was finally replaced by Andy Brightman in the 10th inning. A single and a walk to start were followed up with an RBI ground out and an RBI single to push the score to 4-2 where it would remain as the Lions were unable to answer in the bottom of the 10th.
The Lions are back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Mass Maritime. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. in Buzzards Bay, Mass.
