Box Score WATERTOWN, Mass. – Steve Cameron's .500 night with a run scored and an RBI wasn't enough Thursday night as the Emerson Baseball Team fell 13-4 to Newbury. With the loss the Lions are now 0-12 on the year while Newbury moves to 4-9.
The Nighthawks won the race to the scoreboard as they capitalized on some early walks and wild pitches before Steven Broy singled up the middle on a full count to plate Michael Perillo and make it 1-0.
From that point on the EC pitching held off the Nighthawks for two scoreless innings until Newbury broke it open in the fourth inning with six runs off five hits and an error to make it 7-0.
The Nighthawks matched the six runs again in the fifth inning as the Lion bullpen went through four pitchers in the outing. With Newbury up 13-0 the Lions roared back in the fifth inning as Xavier Garcia led off with a single to short and was brought home in the next at bat as Steven Cameron cracked a 1-1 pitch down the left field line.
An RBI single from Johnny Hasney followed next for the Lions to bring Cameron home. Zach Dean kept the inning rolling as well, drawing a walk to put runners on the corners before a bases clearing triple from Cal Ciarcia off the first pitch he saw made it 13-4 before a struck out ended the rally and the game due to time constraints.
Next up the Lions will hit GNAC action as they set to host Suffolk this Saturday in a doubleheader. First game is set for 1 p.m. in Watertown, Mass. at Victory Fields.
