Men's Tennis Unable to Fend Off Suffolk in GNAC Championship Match

BOSTON, Mass. – For the fourth consecutive year the Emerson Men's Tennis Team reached the GNAC Championship match against the Suffolk Rams who rallied to put up a 7-2 win over the Lions for their fourth straight GNAC title.

In doubles action the Rams came out surging with Aaron Lau and Drew Reilly dominating in the three spot with an 8-0 win. Suffolk locked up another point as well in the top spot as Mitchell Lance and Ken Nikravesh paired up to give Christopher Staley and Marc Winkler a tight match, but eventually falling 8-6. For the Lions Brent Walkoff and Zack Connolly proved to be a highlight as they came back to take a gritty 9-7 win from Harlan Strader and Albert Buruga to make it 2-1 headed into singles.

The story remained the same in singles though as Suffolk came out to clean up the bottom of the order with the four, five and six spots all taking straight sweeps from Emerson to clinch the match. Ken Nikravesh held his own in the two spot in the first set as he pushed Christopher Staley to the limit, but fell 7-5 before Staley fired back with a 6-0 win to clinch it.

Mitchell Lance proved to be a high point for EC in the three spot though as he jumped out to a 6-4 win in the first set before Suffolk's Aaron Lau gave him a run for his money in the second which Lance finally proved victorious in with a 7-5 win to pull it to 7-2 final in Suffolk's favor.

The match wraps the 2012 season for the Emerson Men's Tennis Team who finish 6-6 overall and second in the GNAC.
