PROVIDENCE, RI – In a two close games that saw the Lions just unable to come up with enough offense the Emerson Baseball Team fell twice to Johnson & Wales 3-1 and 5-4 Wednesday night at Pierce Field. Taking the losses on the night were Jeff Kolb and Austin Fontanella who move to 3-4 and 1-2 respectively on the year while the Lions drop to 8-25 overall and 2-10 in GNAC action.

Game one sent EC's Jeff Kolb to the mound where he pitched a masterful six innings of work on the night, while his JWU counterpart John Amodeo spun a gem on the night, allowing but one hit and run on the night to the Lions. The Wildcats struck first in the outing as a hit by pitch came back to haunt Emerson as an RBI single made it 1-0.

The Wildcats didn't waste any time adding to their lead with two more runs in the bottom of the second as an RBI sac bunt brought in one before an RBI single made it 3-0. After that Kolb stepped in to shut down JWU for the rest of the duration to give his offense a bit of space to do work. While the Lions just couldn't seem to figure out Amadeo as they were only able to get to him in the seventh with Ryan Garber wearing a hit by pitch only to find his way home off a Drew Risk RBI single to left and pull it to it's 3-1 final score.

In the nightcap, the offense for both teams seemed to pick up a bit as Sammy Evers took to the hill against JWU's Rob Clark where Evers got shaken up a bit in the bottom of the first as the Wildcats brought around three runs off two hits and a Lion error. EC fired back with two of their own though in the third inning as Ryan Garber started the scoreboard up with an RBI single to short before Peter Malztan put one up the middle to plate another to make it 2-1.

The Lions decided to make a game of it though as they snaked the lead in the fourth inning as they put up two runs off of some sloppy play by the Wildcats who posted three errors as EC took a 4-3 lead. The 'Cats knotted it again though in the sixth with a Matt Newsome RBI double to send it to extra innings. While the Lion bullpen battled the 'Cats with Austin Fontanella on the mound, JWU was finally able to break the stalemate for a run in the ninth with an RBI single to right to end it in JWU's favor.

The Lions will head back to the diamond as they set to head to Rivier to battle the Raiders with playoff implications on the line this Friday in Nashua.
