MALDEN, Mass. – With Kolby Woodfield hitting for the cycle on the day and crushing a .714 average on the day while teammate Austin Fontanella hit .800, the Emerson Baseball Team rallied up to sweep GNAC foe, the Lasell Lasers Saturday in Malden at Maplewood Park taking 7-6 and 9-7 wins on the day. Julian Rifkind and Jeff Kolb took the wins on the day to move to 1-1 and 3-3 on the year while the Lions improve to 7-21 on the year and 2-6 in GNAC action.

Game one sent EC's Conor McDonough to the mound for the Lions where he did work through the sixth inning as the Lions hit the scoreboard first with Woodfield kicking off his cycle with a double  in the second only to come around to score off an Austin Fontanella double to make it 1-0. The Lasers answered in the third though taking the lead with a two RBI single.

Emerson roared back in the bottom of the third adding two more to the scoreboard in the bottom half with back to back singles from Ryan Garber and Peter Maltzan before a wild pitch and an RBI from Cal Ciarcia for a 3-2 lead. They couldn't seem to silence the Lasers though as they put up three more runs as they put up three more with three hits and an error in the fourth to make it  5-3. EC chipped away with a run in the fifth which Lasell answered.

With Julian Rifkind coming in for relief the Lions stepped up to take the lead for one final switch in the sixth as three doubles and a Kolby Woodfield triple led the charge as EC threw down a final blow on the Lasers to plaster three runs off four hits and finish the 7-6 win.

Game two saw Andy Brightman take the start for the Lions, though this time Lasell scored first with a Chris Pittman two RBI single to make it 2-0. The lions answered with a home run in the second as Kolby Woodfield finished a cycle on the day while cutting the lead to 2-1. Lasell wasn't going to make it easy though as they capitalized on an error and two hits to put four on the board as it looked grim for Emerson down 6-1.

The Lions were tenacious though as the put four of their own on the board as they lit up five hits with RBIs from Drew Risk, Adam Speakman and Ryan Garber to pull it back to 6-5. The Lions weren't complacent though as they put up three more runs on four hits in the fifth as the offense hit a hot streak that gave Emerson the lead which Lasell made a small run at in the sixth with a single run, but Emerson had put the game out of reach while tacking on another run in the sixth to close out the 9-7 win.

The Lions hit the field again tomorrow as they travel to Albertus for a doubleheader starting at noon.
